Advocates dismayed as legalization moves forward

(Summary by Hannah)

This article focuses on the reactions of anti-marijuana advocates as Colorado goes through the process of legalization in 2013, a year before commercial dispensaries opened. Advocates are frustrated by what they believe is a careless job by the Department of Justice, which decided not to sue Colorado for going against federal law. They believe that paves the way for marijuana to become capitalized so extremely that it may compare to Big Alcohol or Big Tobacco. These advocates argue that just because most people aren’t addicted to weed doesn’t mean anything, as most people aren’t addicted to alcohol either, yet it is still harmful to human physical and mental health. Their main argument is that the legalization of marijuana runs counter to public health policy against drugs, and that marijuana is not safe to use. These advocates value what they consider to be correct enforcement of federal law and a drug-free country.
