Article 4

the great colorado weed experiment

(Summary by Rachel)

This article is overall strongly pro-legalization, but it points out that regulations are necessary. It explains that Amendment 64 has helped to improve the justice system by decreasing the number of nonviolent drug charges, particularly on people of color. It also points out that the taxation of marijuana has raised a lot of money for Colorado, especially for schools. The author then goes on to explain that there are certainly risks associated with marijuana, with edibles being the most risky form of it. But he generally puts the audience at ease by describing the regulations and preventative measures that Colorado has put in place to curb the negative effects of legalization. This author values the contributions to social justice and government revenue that the legalization of marijuana contributes and thinks that the risks are worth these benefits.
