Warning signs on colorado’s marijuana LEGALIZATION

(Summary by Rachel)

This article, by a staff writer for Christian Science Monitor, argues that other states should not legalize weed. There are too many possible unintended consequences, including increased marijuana use by youth, DUI’s, and a more negative state image. They counter the argument that the legalization of weed is beneficial because of the tax revenue it will create: the economic benefits are not worth the slew of negative consequences that marijuana may bring with it. If states do legalize weed, the author asserts that they should put an emphasis on educational and preventative programs to curb the negative effects. Based on these arguments, it is clear that the author values safety over personal freedom.
