Professional Learning and Ethical Practice

Standard #9: The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

Rationale: This paper was written for my Ethic and Identity course. This final paper was written as a response to an ethical issue. I chose to research the issues surrounding race in school music programs. My research led me to develop a belief that I am responsible for ensuring that my content and teaching are accessible to students of all different backgrounds. This approach will require a constant evaluation of the ethical validity of my teaching strategies, and willingness to make adjustments accordingly. I will need to go beyond the classroom to pursue constant adaptation to the needs of each learner.
