Standard #4: The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make discipline accessible and meaningful for the learners to assure mastery of the content.
Rationale: This mini curriculum was developed for my Elementary Music Education class. The project was designed to allow the teacher to create engaging and creative strategies that can be used to develop unit lesson plans. In my particular unit, I chose to develop lesson plans based on teaching musical concepts using modern or popular songs rather than traditional literature. My goal in designing my curriculum in this style is to present the content I have familiarized myself with in a way that is accessible and meaningful for young learners.
