Learning Environments

Standard #3: The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.

Rationale: This paper written for the Classroom Management course is a research essay on the management strategies of Dr. Marvin Marshall. In my essay, I describe how Dr. Marshall’s philosophy focuses on developing classroom expectations and procedures in order to minimize the need to administer discipline in the classroom. During my time in practicum and student teaching I have learned that establishing consistent guidelines is one of the most important aspects of effective teaching. If students are able to develop consistent procedures into their routine, they be better equipped to engage in their learning and contribute to a collaborative environment.
