Trips to the Bookstore
When I was younger we would take trips to the Harrisonburg area. While there we would visit the Green Valley Book Fair. Many of my extended family were teachers and they raved about this bookstore as being a great resource for teachers. One of the first books my parents purchased from the bookstore was a small instructional book collection with stickers. It was a very small notebook with little books that contained pictures of things like a bug on a rug, and those words were included on the page. Each time I would read the words correctly, I was able to place a sticker on the back of the book. My mom said I loved that collection and she had to buy many more stickers for me to place at the back of the book because I liked reading it so much.
The Green Valley Book Fair is still a place we visit often when my parents come to visit me at Bridgewater College. I can always find a book or two, or three, and my niece usually leaves with a couple of new books too. Over the years the store has added more craft things, puzzles, and other holiday-specific items. I am amazed on some visits just how many people are at the store. I guess it just goes to show that people still like to hold a book and read it.
