Professional Responsibility

Professional Responsibility

Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice – The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.

Rationale: For this standard, I chose to include some of the certificates I have received for professional learning. I have received certificates for the following modules: CPR and First Aid, Dyslexia, Child Abuse and Neglect, Use of Restraint and Seclusion, Cultural Competency, and Building a More Inclusive Community. These certificates align with InTASC Standard #9 because they show that I am engaging in professional learning opportunities. The CPR and First Aid, Child Abuse and Neglect, and Use of Restraint and Seclusion certificates will allow me to respond to emergencies in my school building. The Dyslexia module will allow me to better meet the needs of the students in my class. The Cultural Competency and Building a More Inclusive Community modules will allow me to create a better learning environment for all of my students.

Standard #10: Leadership and Collaboration – The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.

Rationale: For this standard, I chose to include one of the slideshow presentations from a past Bridgewater College Chapter of Morgan’s Message meeting. To create this presentation for our first meeting of the school year, I collaborated with the other ambassadors of the organization: Allie Burris, Jaia Dunbar, and Meghan Bailey. This presentation aligns with InTASC Standard #10 because it shows that I have taken the initiative to collaborate with peers in order to ensure learner growth in areas related to mental health. It also shows that I demonstrated leadership by serving as the founding ambassador of the Bridgewater College Chapter of Morgan’s Message.
