My Sister’s Relationship with Reading
When my sister was about eight years old she was labeled as “Other Health Impaired” for the purposes of receiving special education accommodations at school. She had little to no long-term memory and learned by repetition. She was the initial child who was exposed to my Dad reading Go Dog Go over and over. He read it so much that she could recite parts of the book. Some other books she enjoyed were Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Peanut Butter and Jelly. Although these books were short, had catchy phrases, and were a little on the silly side, they were also educational if you think about it. In reading these books you learned about colors, textures, animals, and what is needed for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. These were great books for my sister and they helped open up the world of reading to my sister.
