Instructional Practice
Standard #6: Assessment – The teacher understands and uses multiple methods of assessment to engage learners in their own growth, to monitor learner progress, and to guide the teacher’s and learner’s decision-making.
Rationale: For this standard, I chose to include the Student Academic Progress Assignment that I completed during student teaching. This assignment allowed me to use a pre-assessment and post-assessment to track learner progress during a mini-unit, which shows my ability to use multiple methods of assessment in the classroom. This assignment aligns with InTASC Standard #6 because it includes a variety of assessments throughout a Comma Unit for seventh-grade students. The assignment shows how pre-assessment data was collected and used to guide instruction throughout the core lessons of the unit. Pre-assessment and post-assessment graphs showed student growth throughout the unit.

Rationale: For this standard, I chose to include my lesson plan folder from student teaching. This folder includes all of the lesson plans I created throughout my student teaching experience. My lesson plans for student teaching align with InTASC Standard #7 because I planned my instruction based on the needs of the students in my class. I used my content area knowledge to create informative and engaging lessons that challenged all students. These lesson plans show that my instruction supports the learning goals of all students in the classroom.

Rationale: For this standard, I chose to include my Video and Reflection Assignment from EDUC 380X. This video shows a lesson where I used numerous instructional strategies to help students develop a deeper understanding of the content. The students are challenged to make connections and strengthen their learning skills. The students are also encouraged to apply their content knowledge in various, meaningful ways throughout the lesson. The lesson in the video aligns with InTASC Standard #8 because it includes a variety of instructional strategies that can be used to encourage learners to engage with the content being taught.
