Content Knowledge

Content Knowledge

Standard #4: Content Knowledge – The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and creates learning experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.

Rationale: For this standard, I chose to include my English Language Arts Content Knowledge Praxis Exam score report. This report shows my score breakdown for each section of the exam. This artifact aligns with InTASC Standard #4 because my passing score proves that I have the content knowledge needed to effectively teach English Language Arts. The abundance of content knowledge that I have will allow me to construct detailed and informative lessons so that students can master the content they are expected to learn.

Standard #5: Application of Content – The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving related to authentic local and global issues.

Rationale: For this standard, I chose to include my unit plan from EDUC 412: Curriculum & Instruction. This unit for seventh-graders includes ten lessons focused on eight literary genres: fantasy, mythology, historical fiction, mystery, realistic fiction, romance, science fiction, and horror. The lessons in this unit utilize different instructional practices to engage students in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving. This unit aligns with InTASC Standard #5 because each lesson incorporates aspects of critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving to enhance the learning environment.
