I’ve been teaching college writing for over 30 years, and it’s my 20th year at Bridgewater College. There are questions that have arisen repeatedly throughout my professional life, like–
- How will today’s students use writing outside of the classroom and after they graduate?
- What should students (K-college) learn about writing? What should we teach students about writing?
- What teaching practices and assignments are effective and useful for writers at different stages of their development? What should writers read? What kinds of writing should we require? How can we balance the writer’s choice (of topic, style, and other matters) with requirements that are fair and even-handed?
